Gemma Willoughby, our fantastic Customer Advisor at Chippenham ARC, is running in the London marathon this year to raise money for Bloodwise - a charity that supports research into Leukaemia & Lymphoma cancers.
“In 2007 I weighed 15 stone and was very unfit” explains Gemma. “One day I decided enough was enough and started running in the hope that I could compete in a running challenge to support a local charity.”
Not only did Gemma get the fitness bug but she also got a big sense of achievement from supporting the charity. She soon found herself running the Bath University Cancer Research 5k, then the 10k, and not long after completed her first half-marathon in Bath (raising money for Whizz Kids).
To date she has run five half-marathons and has raised money for numerous good causes along the way.
Her new mission is to complete the London marathon - a mammoth task (we’re sure you’ll agree) and one which The ARC Group are getting 100% behind to help Gemma reach her fundraising goal of £2000.
We will be holding an 80's-themed “Fabulous Fitness” Day on Monday, April 11th, to raise our own contribution for this fantastic cause and are encouraging all ARC Group staff to come to work in their finest (i.e. most horrendous!) 80's gear. We're talking leg-warmers, leotards, tank tops and MC Hammer pants - and the more neon the better!
We'll have a lot of fun on the day, all for a teeny £2 donation to Gemma's London Marathon (feel free to give more if you want!). Anyone NOT dressed up will be fined £2.50 and be forced to wear an official “Party Pooper” hat for the entire day - so get involved!
