Mandy Turner, one of our Customer Relation Managers at our Swindon branch is probably the proudest grandparent around. Her very brave grandson Ryan conquered his fear of heights to raise money for his ‘nanna’ who has dementia.
Earlier this Summer, nine year old Ryan faced his fears and climbed a 60ft tower at the end of Bournemouth Pier, then flew over the waves on a zip wire to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer's Society charity and the Great Western Hospital, where his great grandmother Joan is being cared for.
“He was a little bit nervous. Reality set in when he was walking up to it,” said his proud mum Laura. “He kept asking his dad if he was scared too. I honestly thought he wouldn't go through with it, but he did it and he loved it. That's the main thing.”
Ryan recorded his challenge on a ‘Go Pro’ camera to show his grandmother, who gave him a kiss and cuddle to congratulate him, “she recognised what he had done – she seemed really pleased, she smiled and she told him she was proud of him.”
So far, Ryan has raised just over £1,000 for his chosen charities, incredible!
